Intermediate Hand Building
$295 12 hrs (4 Sessions)
This intermediate handbuilding ceramics class is designed for students who already have a basic understanding of clay and want to expand their technical skills and creative voice. The course focuses on refining handbuilding techniques such as pinch, coil, slab construction, and joining methods, with an emphasis on craftsmanship, form, and structural integrity. Students will be challenged through guided projects that encourage experimentation, problem-solving, and thoughtful design, while also developing greater control over surface texture and detail.
In addition to building skills, the class explores decorative and finishing techniques including carving, slip application, underglaze, and glaze layering. Students will learn about clay bodies, firing processes, and how to make intentional choices that support both function and aesthetics. Group critiques and individual feedback are an important part of the class, helping students articulate ideas and grow through observation and discussion. By the end of the course, students will have a cohesive body of work that reflects increased confidence, technical ability, and personal expression in handbuilt ceramics.
