Metal-Smith Sand Casting Class $295 6 hrs
Metal-Smith basics is a required introductory course that must be completed before enrolling in any other Metal-Smith Courses.
Sand casting is one of the oldest known casting processes and can be traced back to the Bronze Age in China in around 2000 B.C.E. This metal casting method is one of the most versatile and widely used approaches. In this technique moist sand is tightly pressed around a model which is then removed, leaving a mold cavity to be filled with molten metal. This method has been used by many cultures for many centuries and is still relevant today.
In this class you will create your own piece from bronze casting grain from start to finish! You will become more comfortable with metal-smithing basics while learning how to properly cast an object in sand by pouring molten metal into a flask. All tools and materials are included but students are also welcome to bring in their own objects to cast.
